Take Your Dog to Work!

The annual celebration of dogs (not) working hard

Burton is NOT in charge of tidying the office.

Tomorrow, Friday June 24th, is Take Your Dog to Work Day. Highly recommended for those of us who work in offices – not so much if you clean windows of high-rise buildings, repair highways, or are leading an expedition to Mars. (Withdraw that if your expedition is to the Mars/Pedigree dog food company.)

TYDWD was started by Pet Sitters International in 1999, and quickly took off in the world of dog lovers. Today, it’s observed by businesses all across the country, and is celebrated in partnership with Adopt-a-Pet, to promote adoptions.

Dogs always enjoy going to work. Favorite jobs include cleaning up lunch plates and recycling leftovers.

Sammy and Quigley work at a design firm in Natick, Mass.

For Madison, every day is TYDWD at his home office.

At some companies, like Google, dogs can come to work every day.

Alpine works with his local fire department.

Ikorus Ivan is a pre-school teacher’s assistant

… and Gordot is into big-time poop scooping.

Cats should not feel left out

Since cats are not hugely into work, Take Your Dog to Work Day is an excellent opportunity for them to celebrate dogs going to work.

Five best reasons for cats to celebrate TYDWD (edited from a list at Catalyst Council):

5. Midday nap not interrupted by incessant, frenzied yapping at passing trucks, a squirrel in the yard, the wind … or absolutely nothing at all.

4. No sliding in drool puddles or navigating around mile-wide water-bowl spills.

3. Rare opportunity to use the dog bed as a scratching post. (Or litter box … your choice.)

2. Finally get to eat your own food. All of it. No “sharing.”

And the Number One reason for cats to celebrate TYGWD:

1. No intrusion from crazy canine with questionable culinary habits raiding your litter box.

My dog most allways go's to work with me. I have a housecleaning business for vacation homes. He usually stays out on the porch when I clean. And somewere in the workday we get in a walk. It has worked out good for us and much better for him then being stuck at home for hours. I wish that more people would or could take their dogs to work with them.
