Skip Tom Cruise in ‘Rock of Ages’

Tom Cruise tells Ryan Seacrest he couldn’t do real comedy in his new movie without having a baboon brought onto the set:

“I wanted to play [my scenes] real but also we needed the comedy. … So that’s when I said, ‘I need a monkey. I’m looking for what thing is going to help comedically. … You kind of have to go for it. So that’s where I came up with the monkey.

And then Adam [Shankman, the director] kept going, ‘Look, do we need the monkey?’

And I kept saying, ‘I really need the monkey. And then he came at me with the baboon.”

Ecorazzi notes that Planet of the Apes did the whole movie with brilliant, lifelike computer animations. Cruise, by comparison, can’t pull of a single funny scene without exploiting animals.

I wasn't sure I was going to bother to see this movie, but now I know I really won't. What about having an animal on set makes his comedy "real?" So strange and unnecessary.
